CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela will be meeting with officials on Thursday to discuss the Boys Town-Cross Roads Housing Project.
On Wednesday, the contractor moved out of the site following security concerns.
In April, a former member of the project's steering committee was shot and killed.
The development has long been plagued by problems with residents accusing leaders of sidelining them in decisions pertaining to the development.
Madikizela said the latest the developments was a step backwards.
“Nothing has happened at the site but the contractor maintains its workers were threatened so they decided to leave. However, I’m not happy with their decision.”
He added the matter must be dealt with urgently.
“We have to find a solution as soon as possible because I’m determined that we have to complete the project within its time frame.”
Meanwhile, the province has admitted that it was facing a housing backlog.
Cape Town alone has about 400,000 people awaiting houses, and the province has 500,000 people.
