CAPE TOWN – The Public Protector said on Wednesday she received the outstanding information she’d been waiting for in order to wrap up her investigation into spending on President Jacob Zuma's Nkandla home.
Thuli Madonsela was asked to investigate allegations of improper conduct after it emerged more than R200 million was spent on upgrading the president's private KwaZulu-Natal residence.
Last week, she said her own preliminary Nkandla report had been completed, but her office was still waiting for a few outstanding documents, which held up the process.
She said details of the delay will be disclosed when the final report is released.
On Tuesday, Public Protector spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi did not want to reveal who the outstanding information came from.
“The information that has been outstanding from one party was received today. The Public Protector will now analyse it and integrate it into the provisional report.”
Madonsela said she hopes to finish the provisional report within the next two weeks.
“I will be advised by my team, hopefully by the end of the week, regarding the sufficiency of the information.”
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has turned to the courts in a bid to gain access to a government task team's report on Nkandla.
But the report has been classified as top secret.
