Parliament - President Jacob Zuma on Thursday submitted to Parliament the Special Investigating Unit's final report on state-funded improvements to his home in Nkandla, his office said.
“President Jacob Zuma has today, 11 September 2014, submitted the final report of the Special Investigating Unit into the security upgrades to the private residence of the president in Nkandla,” presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said.
Zuma authorised the SIU to investigate the Nkandla controversy in December 2013, but its final report has been delayed several times.
Earlier this year, SIU head Vas Soni told Parliament one of the reasons for this was that it took the unit more than six months to gain access to the president's property.
Parliament this month established an ad hoc committee to consider the findings of various investigations into the R246
million Nkandla project, including that of the SIU and the public protector.
It must also weigh Zuma's own submission to the legislature last month.
Zuma has come under fire because his letter to Parliament side-stepped Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's recommendation that he must repay state funds that were spent on private comforts at Nkandla, notably a swimming pool.
