Public Protector Thuli Mandonsela says she doesn't expect the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) or a court to “second-guess” her Nkandla decisions following the announcement that the unit is now ready to present its findings in Parliament next week.
Earlier this year, Madonsela found that President Jacob Zuma and his family unduly benefitted from the R246 million upgrades at President Jacob Zuma’s private Nkandla residence and recommended that he pay back a portion of the money.
The upgrades included an amphitheatre, a chicken run and a swimming pool.
Madonsela says she doesn't have a problem with the time the SIU has taken conclude its own investigation.
She however admitted that she was surprised when the unit said it could conclude its probe faster given the risk factors.
“In terms of the law, a court of law can only question my methodology and say procedurally this is not what I was supposed to do.”
Madonsela says the only outcome that could come from a review process would be that the investigation could be sent back to her office.
