Twenty shacks have been razed, leaving 120 without shelter, in a fire that has ripped through the Masiphumelele informal settlement near Fish Hoek.
Firefighters responded to the blaze before 1pm on Sunday and had it under control about an hour and a half later, said Theo Layne, a platoon commander at the Cape Town Fire Command and Control Centre.
Layne said 30 firefighters, five fire trucks and one rescue vehicle were sent out.
The cause of fire was not yet known, he said.
One man was treated for minor burns to his arms, but no major injuries were reported.
City Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the people who lost their homes were being accommodated at a community hall.
Disaster management had handed out building materials and some people had begun building their replacement homes.
