A shack fire in Nooitgedacht near Bishop Lavis in Cape Town has killed a mother and her six-year old son on Saturday morning.
No other fatalities were reported.
Disaster Risk Management’s spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said it was thought that an electrical fault may have sparked the blaze.
He added that there were other possible culprits.
“The authorities will investigate the cause of the fire. Disaster Management is appealing to residents to ensure that they do put out open flame fires, candles or lamps and to not let them burn but to keep a watchful eye on them,” he said.
