Seventy two people have started the new year without a home, after a fire broke out at the Du Noon informal settlement on New Years Eve, Cape Town's Disaster Risk Management Centre said on Sunday.
"The fire destroyed 38 shacks in the Du Noon informal settlement," said the centre's head Wilfred Solomons-Johannes in a statement.
He said the fire, with the cause still undetermined, started at 11.25pm on Saturday.
No one was injured but those left homeless have been provided with food, clothing, blankets and building materials.
On Monday night, a 25-year-old man died after a fire broke out in the same area.
The man was fast asleep while the fire ravaged twenty shacks in the informal settlement.
Forty seven people were left homeless after the incident. - Timeslive
