Following the passing of the Protection of State Information Bill (the Secrecy Bill) by
the National Assembly in November 2011, the Bill now moves to the
National Council of Provinces (NCOP) for consideration. The NCOP is
holding public hearings in all 9 provinces, so make sure you and your
communities attend, and make your voices heard! The current draft does
not adequately protect our right to know.There
has also been a call for written submissions in a variety of national
newspapers. Details of the hearings, which kick off in the Western Cape
on 31 January, are below. Where available, maps to the venues are on our
