Cape Town - A fire in a Kommetjie informal settlement on Tuesday morning left 140 people homeless, the Cape Town disaster risk management centre said.
Spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the fire started before noon in Site 5, Masiphumelele, and destroyed 40 dwellings.
“It is suspected that a man who went to work failed to switch off his electronic stove, (and) that caused the fire.”
Hot meals, clothing, blankets, baby packs and building materials were provided to the victims. No casualties were reported. - Sapa
