Controversy over who should occupy houses at the N2 Gateway development in Cape Town continues. Chaos erupted at a meeting called by Western Cape Local Housing Minister Richard Dyantyi in Delft earlier this afternoon.
This after the Cape High court granted a housing developer an eviction order. The decision that not gone down well with the occupants. The backyard dwellers from Delft and Belhar, invaded these houses at the N2 Gateway housing project in Delft nearly two months ago.
Before the meeting could start, the dwellers demanded that their leader and local ward councilor Democratic Alliance (DA) politician Frank Martin be present. However when Martin finally arrived the meeting was over and he was in no mood for compromises. More chaos could erupt if the Cape High Court dismisses the occupants' application to appeal their eviction on Monday. - SABC
There was a strong police presence surrounding the MEC of Housing and local government Richard Dyantyi.
