Cape Town - Five people were displaced when their shack caught alight in Khayelitsha on Wednesday morning, a City of Cape Town official said.
The fire was detected by crime surveillance cameras in Nonkqubela around 1am, said disaster risk management centre spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.
“As a result of the vigilance of the surveillance operators that observed the fire and the quick response of the fire and rescue services, the fire was prevented from spreading.”
Those affected were given food parcels, clothing, blankets, and building material. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was unknown. - Sapa
