Housing & Agriculture team up to solve housing woes

The Western Cape Agriculture MEC has expressed concern about the lack of decent housing available to farm labourers.

Gerrit van Rensburg is hoping to change this with the help of his human settlements counterpart.

Housing shortages and poor pay were among the biggest challenges facing farm workers.

Government officials, farmers unions and farm workers are participating in a two-day Farm Workers Summit at Goudini, near Rawsonville.

The MEC’s spokesperson Wouter Kriel said the housing issue was receiving priority.

“The minister has been in conversation with his colleague Bonginkosi Madikizela, the Minister of Housing. The idea is to look at housing in terms of public-private partnerships.”
