Cape Town officials have confirmed a mother and her child died in the shack at the Paula Informal Settlement in Phillip on Saturday morning.
Ten shacks burnt down and about 40 people were displaced.
Disaster Management’s Wilfred Solomans Johannes said, “It has been confirmed that a mother and a child have died in the fire. Unfortunately at this stage we cannot give their names until their family has been notified.”
