WC govt's "home for all" grapples with housing demand

The Western Cape Local Government and housing minister, Richard Dyantyi, says the province can only provide 16,000 housing units per year with the current housing subsidy from national government.

He was speaking at a ceremony in Khayelitsha, where a blind woman received a house from the SABC.

Dyantyi pointed out that the province should be delivering 30,000 units a year if it is to solve the 400,000 housing backlog in the province.

Dyantyi welcomed the SABC initiative adding that there are other people who are also in similar vulnerable conditions.
