Habitat-Crisis averted calm returned through bullets

Traffic is flowing normally on Cape Town's N2 highway after chaos erupted during peak hour traffic yesterday due to violent protests.

A strong police contingent is keeping a watchful eye near the N2 Gateway housing development at Langa to prevent a repeat of yesterday's stand-off between police and the protestors.

A group of about 2 000 residents of Langa blockaded the N2 and set up a burning barricade off the highway. Both lanes of the N2 were closed. The group was protesting against the planned relocation of shack dwellers from Langa to Delft. - SABC
