The SABC will hand over a house to a blind woman and her family in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats this morning. The house was built through a sponsor by the broadcaster.
Correctional services minister Ngconde Balfour and provincial local government and housing minister Richard Dyantyi will attend the ceremony. The woman cannot be named as her daughter is a rape survivor. She will share the house with another daughter and her mentally unstable husband.
The house was constructed by prisoners after the SABC highlighted the plight of the woman during Women's Month. The recipient is fortunate to be alive today because the shack in which she previously lived was flattened by a stolen vehicle shortly after she was moved out of her shack to a place of safety.
SABC staff dedicated a full Saturday about four weeks ago to assist in the construction of the house. On that day, the woman broke into tears when she heard that she would soon become a home owner.
The chairman of the SABC board, Eddie Funde, the Group chief executive, advocate Dali Mpofu, and the head of SABC news, Snuki Zikalala, are some of the dignitaries expected to attend today's ceremony. - SABC
InternAfrica - would like to point out the obvious.
The blind lady can't see the new house.
We don't know who she is.
We don't know where the house is.
With the spin doctors present, presenting the invisible clothes to the blind, should be questioned.
